Little Hercules

A vehicle named Little Hercules has recently been operated by the NOAA. Little Hercules uses bright  lights and high quality video to uncover mysteries. The NOAA sent Little Hercules four thousand feet below the Gulf of Mexico to study the remains of anything that might have been left years ago. The findings could possibly be used to learn more about the past. So far, Little Hercules has found a shipwreck from the 1800's that could potentially be used to learn more about the time period. Oil companies and other businesses try to find others wrecks and "time capsules" to be studied.
Finding more information about the past is very important. Using vehicles such as Little Hercules can help us understand what really went on years ago. This high-tech machine can help researchers uncover artifacts that have not yet been found. In addition, Little Hercules can be used to learn basic information about the deep blue sea. Little Hercules should continue to search for hidden treasures that could lead to new information.

South Korean Smugglers

People of South Korea have recently been caught with a new type of pill. Horrifyingly enough, these pills are being made of the flesh of dead babies. No one know for sure where these babies come from but investigations are being done on the fetuses and newborns used for drugs last year. Apparently, the capsules are said to cure disease even though they are packed with various harmful bacteria. Originating somewhere in China, the pills are being smuggled as stamina boosters in luggage or by mail. The pills are being confiscated but no one has been charged so far.
This absolutely appalls me. No baby should be used for such production. The creation of these pills are uncivilized and unjust. The part that upsets me that most is that no one has been charged. Of the over seventeen thousand capsules found, no one has been deemed responsible for this cruelty.  Its disturbing that a person can destroy another human and eat them for their own satisfaction and well-being. Hopefully, this issue will not arise again and the authorities have this under control.

"Could Eating Chocolate Make You Thinner?"

This article teaches the benefits of eating chocolate. To begin, this article is about chocolate eaters. Recent studies show that people eating chocolate in their daily lives are thinner than non-chocolate eaters. This is a recent study that has people deciding whether they want to add this two-hundred calorie treat into their diets. This study took place in the United States. The reasoning behind these results are due to the fact that chocolate can improve you metabolism allowing you a greater calorie intake. The only doubts about this test are that the daily diets of the participants may not have been completely accurate.

Although this article was fascinating, I felt that it was too vague to try yourself. For instance, they did not share approximately how much chocolate a person should be eating to receive this outcome. I feel that it would have been important to share this information in case a person was to try the experiment. If a person was to take chocolate to improve their health, it would have to be a small square of dark chocolate taken daily. Although the chocolate may taste good, as said in the article, chocolate has many calories that are not healthy. Also, the chocolate should be dark chocolate that contains sixty to seventy percent cocoa. This was not specified in the article. Lastly, a detail forgotten in the article was that not only will eating too much give you extra calories, it may also cancel out the possible health benefits. In summation, this article stated what has been recently tested and learned about chocolate. It was very valuable but not an article to use if you wanted to try adding dark chocolate to your diet.

Observing a Candle, Pouring Gas, Marshmallow Fun, Observing Changes in Matter

The four labs, "Observing a Candle", "Pouring Gas", "Marshmallow Fun", and "Observing Changes in Matter," were all very similar. They each showed either a physical or chemical change. To begin, the "Observing Candle" lab showed chemical change. A chemical change occurs when a substance is changed into one or more new substances. When the candle in this lab was lit, it burned. The burning is an example of a chemical change. Through this lab, chemical and physical properties were distinguished. One of the physical properties shown after the candle was lit was it melted. One chemical property is that the candle was burned.
Next, the "Pouring a Gas" lab also represented a chemical change. When the vinegar and baking soda mixture is poured over the the lit candle, carbon dioxide is created. This is a chemical reaction because a new substance was created. When the CO2 is created, the flame went out because CO2 does not support burning.
The first part of the "Marshmallow Fun" lab, on the other hand, is an example of physical change. Physical change is the change of appearance or form of a substance. The molecular composition is not effected. When the marshmallow is ripped, it remains a marshmallow but it is simply two pieces instead of one. On the other hand, the marshmallow being burned over the Bunsen burner is chemical. This is because a char is being formed on the marshmallow. The physical properties also change because the marshmallow looks black and now tastes crispy and charred instead of sweet and a bit powdery.
The last lab, "Observing Changes In Matter," also represents both physical and chemical change. In the first part of the lab when the sugar is powderized and then dissolved in water, physical change is shown. The chemical makeup isn't changed, the form is simply altered. When the sugar is lit over the Bunsen burner, chemical change takes place. The sugar is spit into water and carbon. Once the water evaporates into the air, only carbon is left, a new substance.
Through these labs i learned very much. First, I learned how chemical and physical change take place in different substances. Next, I learned how to describe the physical and chemical properties of a substance, and how to differentiate. The difference between a physical and chemical property is that a physical property can be changed without changing the substance. Lastly, I learned that chemical and physical change happens in everyday objects. Different tasks people do everyday are categorized as physical or chemical change, such as roasting a marshmallow.

Separating Mixtures

1. First, use the spoon to remove the kidney beans from the mixture.

2.. Next, use the spoon to remove the toothpicks.

3. Then, use the spoon to remove the spider.

4. After, put the magnet in the mixture and remove the iron filings.

5. . Following that, fold the filter into the cone and put it in the funnel. Then, hold the filter over the beaker and pour the mixture in it. This will remove the sand.

6.. Continuing on, put the beaker, full of the leftover contents of the mixture, on the hot plate.

7. Once the water evaporates, you should be left with salt. This is the last part of the mixture.

8. Lastly, turn off the hot plate and clean up all your materials.

Frog Dissection

Looking at a dissected frog is nauseating. I did not want to get within several feet of the frog. The
smell in the classroom was disgusting and looking at the frogs organs was gross. Despite my many issues with the frog, I did eventually look inside it. By doing this I learned a whole lot about the frog's many organs. The frog my group was given happened to be male. In this male frog we saw organs such as the liver, kidneys, gall bladder, heart, stomach, large/small intestines, spleen, and more. We were also able to open the frogs mouth and look at the tongue. When seeing these parts in the frog, the functions were also explained. The function of most of the organs were already known. This is because these functions are the same as the ones that my class learned about when learning about the human systems.
The frog and the human body are very similar. They may not be the same size, but the organs inside of each are very similar. Both humans and animals have similar digestive organs along with the heart and many other organs. These organs have the same purpose in both bodies. For example, the stomach breaks down food through chemical digestion in both the human and frog. The two parts that I noticed only a frog had were oviducts and the cloaca. Something else I noticed about only the frog was that was that a female frog has hundreds of eggs being ready to be released. When a group opened up the female frog there were hundreds of little black spheres inside of her. In the end, regardless of how disgusted I was, this lab really did teach me a lot.
